Naming with the Name al-‘Ali
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 9757 )
Q: I submit to you, O honorable Shaykh, this petition, and I inform you that I have cut off the resentment of those close to me, and it contains in my lineage one of the names of Allah, which is (al-‘Ali) written in this form: Ali Sa‘d Hasan al-‘Ali al-Zahrani. Since the exaltation belongs to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), and I have some concern in my heart about this name, is there a fatwa from your honor in this matter? So that the heart may be at ease, and may Allah reward you for the Ummah of Muhammad with all good.
A: If the situation is as you described, there is no blame on you in that; because this name belongs to your grandfather, not to you, and because the intended meaning is the family of Ali, not naming with al-‘Ali. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
