Fasting on Monday

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q24: A man consistently fasts on Monday but not on Thursday . Is his action valid?
A24: It is recommended to fast on Mondays and Thursdays. Abu Dawud narrated from Usamah ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them both):
That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to fast on Mondays and Thursdays. When he was asked about that, he said: "Indeed, the deeds of people are presented on Monday and Thursday."أن النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - كان يصوم الاثنين والخميس فسئل عن ذلك فقال : إن أعمال الناس تعرض يوم الاثنين ويوم الخميس
, and in another wording:
and I love that my deeds be presented while I am fasting.فأحب أن يعرض عملي وأنا صائم
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 747Hasan (Darussalam)
. The hadith indicates that fasting on Monday and Thursday is prescribed and is part of the Sunnah. There is no harm in fasting one of these two days without the other. Fasting them is a recommended practice, not obligatory. Whoever fasts both or one of them is upon great good. It is not obligatory to combine them, but doing so is recommended, based on the authentic hadiths reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this.
