The questioner : What is the ruling on consistently reading specific surahs that a person adopts as a routine alongside the daily recitation of the Qur'an, given that we have learned from some hadiths that reading these surahs has great virtue, such as Surah Ya-Sin, Surah Ha-Mim al-Dukhan, Surah al-Fath, Surah al-Mulk, and others?

The Shaykh : Yes, as for what has not been established by a text regarding the reading of certain surahs or verses, it is not permissible for a person to read them believing that this, that reading this specific thing is a recommended practice (sunnah).

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Because if he did that, he would legislate in the religion of Allah what is not part of it. As for what is established by a hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), or what came from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in a way that establishes the argument, there is no harm in persisting with it in the manner it was reported. If it was reported with persistence, he should persist; if it was reported without persistence, he should not persist. The important thing is that it is obligatory, indeed it is obligatory, for the worshippers and those who have daily routines that they seek out what the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) brought, and that they do not innovate in the religion of Allah what is not part of it. Indeed, even if a person takes a specific part of the Qur'an and makes it a religion by persisting with it or something similar to that, and it has not come from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in a way that serves as a proof, it is not permissible for him to do so; rather, he would be an innovator in the religion of Allah, introducing what is not part of it. Yes.
