The questioner : A quarrel and misunderstanding took place between my daughter and her husband, and I was present during that quarrel, so I became very angry and Satan, may Allah curse him, overcame me, and I said to my daughter's husband, "I divorce you; you will not be the husband of my daughter after this." During that time, I regretted this speech that came out of me during the quarrel. What is the ruling on what I said?
The Shaykh : First, your saying "Satan, may Allah curse him."
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : You should say, "May Allah protect me from him," for that is better, due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Fussilat 41:36] As for your saying, "I divorce you; you will not be the husband of my daughter," this is an error on your part, for its meaning is that you are creating hostility and hatred between your daughter and her husband, and this is a mistake. So repent to your Lord and seek His forgiveness. If your daughter is with you now, return her to her husband; do not separate them. As for this divorce that occurred from you with this wording, its ruling is the ruling of an oath. You must expiate the oath by feeding ten poor people or clothing them. If you do not find the means, then fast three consecutive days. Then, I advise you and others among the people not to swear by other than Allah, Mighty and Majestic, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Sahih al-Bukhari 2679 Swearing by divorce, by vow, by freeing a slave, and the like of that is something that should not be done. Rather, swearing is only by Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He. As for swearing in the form of an oath by other than Allah, it is shirk (associating partners with Allah) and kufr (disbelief). And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Riyad as-Salihin 1711

And if there comes to you from Satan an evil suggestion, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing.
