Fatwa No. ( 10310 )
Q: I inform you of my submission that I have a daughter whose name is (A.Y.J.R) who is married to a man named (Y.R.A). He committed aggression against his wife and cursed her seventy-seven times. We appeared before the judge of the Court of Rights, and he ordered him to be imprisoned for six days after he admitted to cursing his wife. Then the judge returned his wife to him without any compensation. Therefore, I am presenting this matter to your eminence: Is it permissible to return to him, or is it not permissible? Please issue a ruling, may Allah reward you with good.
A: It is not permissible for a man to curse his wife or any other Muslim, but this does not make her forbidden to him; rather, she is his wife, because cursing is not a divorce. The aforementioned husband should seek forgiveness and repent for what occurred, hoping that Allah will accept repentance from us and from him.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
