The first question of Fatwa number ( 18795 )
Q 1: Is it permissible for a Muslim to follow the funeral of a Christian?
A 1 : It is not permissible for a Muslim to follow the funeral of a Christian or any other disbeliever, nor to attend his burial; because Allah has forbidden the loyalty of disbelievers. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Ma'idah 5:51] , and He the Exalted said: [At-Tawbah 9:84] . This indicates that the ruling encompasses all disbelievers, from the Jews and the Christians and the Zoroastrians and the polytheists and the hypocrites, and following their funerals is a form of loyalty to them. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
Allah the Exalted said:
O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are [in fact] allies of one another
And do not pray [the funeral prayer, O Muhammad], over any of them who has died - ever - or stand at his grave. Indeed, they disbelieved in Allah and His Messenger and died while they were defiantly disobedient.
