The first question of Fatwa No. ( 19773 )
Praise be to Allah alone, and blessings and peace be upon the one after whom there is no prophet. Then: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed what was sent to His Eminence the Grand Mufti from the questioner: the Director of the Department of Religious Affairs in Civil Defense, and referred to the Committee by the General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars with number (3937) and date 5/7/1418 AH. The questioner asked questions, and after the Committee studied them, it answered as follows: The first question: What is the ruling when hearing the Civil Defense alarm during the performance of prayer , and how should one leave the prayer, if that is permissible? Does one complete the prayer or repeat it, and if one has finished the task, what is the situation?
Answer: If the soldiers hear the sound of the Civil Defense alarm during prayer
and there is a confirmed danger to lives and property that prevents them from continuing the prayer while it exists, they break off the prayer and proceed to repel the danger. When they are done with it, they resume the prayer from the beginning; because their first prayer became invalid by breaking it off. However, if there is no confirmed danger when they hear the sound of the alarm, they continue in their prayer and do not break it off; due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Muhammad 47:33] . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
