The Religious Obligations of the Sick Person

Fatwa No. ( 21361 )
Q: I have a daughter who is 16 years old. Since she suffers from several illnesses, including moderate mental retardation and kidney failure, she undergoes (kidney dialysis) three times a week. She does not understand anything and does not speak. Looking at her physical build, one would give her an age of 7 years, and would not think she is 16 years old. My question is: What is obligatory for me regarding her in terms of prayer and fasting,
since, as I mentioned, she does not understand anything and does not speak , and she is 16 years old?
A: If the aforementioned girl does not understand anything, then no religious obligations are required of her; because she is not accountable. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
