Fasting of a Kidney Patient
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question from Fatwa No. ( 14291 )
Q1: I had a kidney transplant after suffering from kidney failure for about three years. Two months of Ramadan have passed in the last two years, during which I broke my fast and fed a poor person for each day, based on the doctor’s statement that I was unable to fast because I could not delay the treatment given in the morning until the evening. I had to consume no less than three or four liters of fluids to keep the kidney in good condition. This year, he informed me that there is no objection to fasting, and indeed, praise be to Allah, I am continuing to fast. However, what is my situation regarding the two months I broke my fast in the past? Should I make them up in this state? I do not hide a secret, for I also fear a deterioration of my condition, may Allah forbid it.
A1: If the doctor who told you that is a Muslim doctor, and you fed [the poor] for the two months you broke your fast, and then your health improved and you were able to fast, then you should fast in the future and do not need to make up what has passed.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
