Recording songs on lecture tapes and Qur'an tapes

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: There is a group of some prisoners who record songs from the radio on cassette tapes that contain lectures and lessons by scholars and shaykhs. In fact, some of these prisoners have gone so far as to record songs on Qur'an tapes. We would like your advice and guidance, and a clarification of the Shari'ah ruling on these bold individuals. May Allah reward you with good.
A: It is forbidden to listen to songs and music; because of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech to mislead [others] from the way of Allah without knowledge and who takes it in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment.
[Luqman 31:6]
, and 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say regarding "idle talk": "By Allah, it is singing." And al-Bukhari reported in his *Sahih* that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful.ليكونن من أمتي أقوام يستحلون الحر والحرير والخمر والمعازف
Sahih al-Bukhari 5590
. It is forbidden to record songs absolutely, and on Qur'an tapes it is even more so; because in that there is a lack of proper conduct toward the Book of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and replacing it with songs, in addition to preserving and spreading the forbidden songs.
