The Ruling on Listening to Songs

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question in the letter of the brother (H. A. S.) from Jordan says: Is listening to and watching songs on the radio or television forbidden in Islam at certain times of the night or day? Please inform us, may Allah reward you.
Answer: Yes, listening to songs and entertainment is forbidden in Islam, as Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) said: :
And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech to mislead [others] from the way of Allahوَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ
[Luqman: 6] and “(and vain talk).” Most scholars said that this refers to singing. Also added to it are the sounds of entertainment instruments, such as the tanbur, the oud, the violin, and the like. They all divert from the path of Allah, harden the hearts, and make them sick.
And the Lord (Glorified and Exalted is He) informed that this is among the causes of misguidance and leading astray, and among the causes of the servant's arrogance in refusing to listen to the Book of Allah. When the heart is commanded to sing and listens to it frequently, it prevents it from the truth, causes it serious diseases, and makes it heavy in obeying Allah and His Messenger, and in listening to the Qur'an and sermons. Until 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Indeed, hypocrisy grows in the heart just as water grows plants."
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful.ليكونن من أمتي أقوام يستحلون الحر والحرير والخمر والمعازف
Sahih al-Bukhari 5590
He informed that there will be people in the end times who consider musical instruments lawful, while they are forbidden. Musical instruments are songs and instruments of entertainment. And Allah is the One to be sought for help. Yes.
