Q: I am a sick man who suffered a stroke that has made my tongue heavy. When I recite the Qur'an, it is difficult for me to articulate the letters, and sometimes the meaning changes, so I am forced to read the mushaf with my eyes without vocalizing it, out of fear of altering the Qur'an . Is there any harm in vocalizing it despite the change in letters due to the heaviness of my tongue?
A : You should recite the Qur'an according to your ability; based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[At-Taghabun 64:16]
and the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the authentic hadith
authentic:
and he who falters in it, and finds it difficult for him, will have two rewards.والذي يقرأ القرآن ويتتعتع فيه وهو عليه شاق له أجران
Sahih Muslim 798a
. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
