Q: I heard that there is a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) which says, in its meaning: that whoever memorizes the entire Noble Qur'an will intercede for seven of his family members. Is this hadith authentic or weak? I heard this hadith from the imam of a mosque, and that prompted me
to memorize the Noble Book because of the death of a dear one to me, perhaps Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) will benefit us with what He has taught us. And Allah is the Guide to the straight path. Please inform us, and may Allah reward you with good.
A : This hadith is narrated as marfu' from the hadith of Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) in the wording:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2905Da'if (Darussalam) It was narrated by Ahmad in (his Musnad) and al-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah . The core of its chain with them is through Abu 'Umar Hafs ibn Sulayman al-Qari, the companion of 'Asim , and he is one whose hadith is abandoned despite his leadership in recitations, so this hadith is not established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And the texts of the noble, authentic, established Sunnah from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the virtues of the great Qur'an, the excellence of its recitation and reciting it, and what Allah has prepared of great reward and abundant recompense for its reciter, and the explanation of its etiquettes, have multiplied—praise be to Allah—and the scholars have dedicated books to this. May Allah make us and you among the people of the Qur'an, those who preserve its letters and its limits. Amen.

Whoever recites the Qur'an and memorizes it, making lawful what it makes lawful, and unlawful what it makes unlawful, Allah will admit him to Paradise due to it, and grant him intercession for ten of his family members who were to be consigned to the Fire.
من قرأ القرآن واستظهره فأحل حلاله وحرم حرامه، أدخله الله به الجنة وشفعه في عشرة من أهل بيته، كلهم قد وجبت له النارAnd success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
