The first question of Fatwa number ( 20617 )
Q1: I perform wudu' as prescribed by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I always repeat my wudu' three times, and I wipe my head along with my ears once. However, recently I have been afflicted with an allergy—may Allah protect you—in my nostrils, which has forced me to exaggerate in snoutering more than five times. This is after I have completed my wudu' entirely, because the allergy is very inflamed for me, so when I exaggerate, it seems my nostrils calm down a little. This is despite my knowledge that increasing in wudu' is not permissible, but given my condition, what should I do? Please inform me, may Allah reward you with good, what I am to do?
A1: Your snoutering of water several times after finishing the wudu'
for the purpose of countering the allergy you suffer in your nostrils, without believing that it is part of the wudu', there is no harm in it and no objection to it. But if you are fasting, do not exaggerate in snoutering, which is drawing water with the breath to the farthest part of the nose; because that is disliked for the fasting person during his fast, and the Sunnah for him is not to exaggerate, fearing that water may seep into his throat; for what is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sunan Ibn Majah 407Sahih (Darussalam) It was narrated by the Imam Ahmad and Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah and al-Tirmidhi , and al-Tirmidhi said: This is a good, authentic hadith. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
