What is the ruling of the Shari'ah regarding the fortune-teller and going to him with the intention that he will inform him about what was stolen from him?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh. One of the brothers had something stolen from him, and some people advised him to go to a fortune-teller. He knew perfectly well that going to a fortune-teller is shirk (associating partners with Allah), but he went to him just to gain an economic benefit from him, knowing that he seeks the aid of jinn who have knowledge that he does not have. Is it permissible for him to go with this intention, or is it not permissible?

The Shaykh : Did he do it or not?

The questioner : This is what was asked.

The Shaykh : You are asking. You say: He went to the fortune-teller.

The questioner : He did it.

The Shaykh : He did it. Did he find it? Did he find the stolen item?

The questioner : I do not know.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : I do not know about this.

The Shaykh : No.

The questioner : I do not know.

The Shaykh : You do not know? Ask him. Ask him first so that he knows that going to these fortune-tellers, who are in fact ignorant, is foolishness, foolishness of the mind. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Amr that: The Prophet [SAW] said: من أتى عرافا فسأله لم تقبل له صلاة أربعين يوما
