Q 9: Do we celebrate the Festival of Sacrifice on the tenth day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah?
A 9: The Festival of Sacrifice is the tenth day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah,
and the Muslims have reached scholarly consensus on this. Among the prescribed acts for it is the prayer of the festival, consisting of two units of prayer after the sun has risen to the height of a spear, and drawing near to Allah by slaughtering the sacrificial animals after the prayer, giving charity from them to the poor and the needy, increasing the remembrance of Allah and the declaration of His greatness, and thanking Allah for His blessings, the greatest of which is the blessing of Islam and guidance to the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
