A word from the Shaykh about the month of Dhu al-Hijjah and the acts of worship prescribed to be performed in it.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : All praise is due to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our own souls and from the evil of our deeds. Whoever Allah guides is not to be led astray, and whoever He leaves astray is not to be guided. I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family and his Companions and those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment). As for what follows: This is the meeting for the month of Dhu al-Qa'dah, which is the monthly meeting held on the night of the third Thursday of every month. This night is the sixteenth night of Dhu al-Qa'dah in the year 1415, and it is the meeting that completes the twenty-sixth of the previous meetings. We ask Allah the Exalted to make these meetings blessed and beneficial for us and for you. As suggested by our brother Mahmoud ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz al-Sa'igh, this meeting will be about the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, this month. I mean that the month of Dhu al-Hijjah is one of the three consecutive months of the sacred months, because the sacred months are four: Dhu al-Qa'dah, Dhu al-Hijjah, and Muharram, which are consecutive, and the fourth is the standalone month of Rajab, which is between Jumada al-Thani and Sha'ban. This month is the best of the three sacred months because of its centrality and because the righteous deeds performed in it are not performed in the same way in any other month. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that he said:
There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than those ten days. ما من أيام العمل الصالح فيهن أحب إلى الله من هذه الأيام العشر
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 757Sahih (Darussalam)
meaning the ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah
They said: “O Messenger of Allah! Not even Jihad in the cause of Allah?” He said: “Not even Jihad in the cause of Allah, unless a man goes out with himself and his wealth and does not bring anything back.” قالوا يا رسول الله ولا الجهاد في سبيل الله قال ولا الجهاد في سبيل الله إلا رجل خرج بنفسه وماله فلم يرجع من ذلك بشيء
Sunan Ibn Majah 1727Sahih (Darussalam)
This hadith indicates that it is incumbent upon us to increase in righteous deeds during the ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah.
Among these is that we increase in glorification, the declaration of Allah's oneness, and the takbir, saying: "Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, there is no deity but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, and to Allah belongs all praise." We increase in charity because it is among the righteous deeds. We increase in prayer because it is the best of the physical deeds. We increase in reciting the Qur'an because the Qur'an is the best of dhikr. We increase in every righteous deed, and we fast the days of the ten because fasting is among the righteous deeds. Even if no hadith has come specifically regarding it, it falls under the general ruling because it is a righteous deed. So let us fast these ten days, meaning the nine days, because the tenth day is the day of the festival and is not to be fasted.
Fasting becomes more emphasized on the Day of 'Arafah, except for the pilgrims, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding the Day of 'Arafah:
I anticipate that Allah will forgive (the sins) of the year after it, and the year before it. أحتسب على الله أن يكفر السنة التي قبله والسنة التي بعده
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 749Da'if (Darussalam)
