Q: An imam is praying Maghrib in congregation, and after he has prayed two rak'ahs, he remembers that he did not pray the 'Asr prayer. What should the imam and the ma'mum do? I ask for clarification on this.
A: He should complete the prayer with the ma'mum, and it is considered a voluntary prayer for him, while the prayer of the ma'mum is valid; because it is permissible for one who is performing an obligatory prayer to follow one who is performing a voluntary prayer. Then, after finishing the prayer, he makes up the missed prayer, which is 'Asr, and then he prays the current prayer, which is Maghrib. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
