Shall I teach you something for memorization?

Fatwa No. ( 19914 )
Q: I have a question regarding a hadith I found in an old book, and this is the text of the hadith: It is narrated from Hisham ibn Harith , from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: " Shall I teach you something for memorization? " He said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. He said: "You write in a tray with saffron the opening of the Book to its end, and Surat al-Mulk to its end, and Surat al-Hashr to its end, and Surat al-Waqi'ah to its end, then you pour over it water from Zamzam or rainwater or seawater, then you drink it on an empty stomach in the pre-dawn hours with three mithqals of frankincense and ten mithqals of honey and ten mithqals of sugar, then you pray two rak'ahs, reciting in each rak'ah Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad fifty times after reciting the opening of the Book fifty times, then you become fasting." Ibn Abbas said: I did it, and it was as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said. Ibn Abbas said: Forty days will not pass over you without you becoming a memorizer; this is for one whose age is under sixty. Question: Your Eminence, Abdul Aziz ibn Abdullah ibn Baz : What do you say about this hadith, is it authentic or weak, and if it is authentic, what does it mean by: tray, empty stomach? Knowing that this hadith is taken from the book (Khazinat al-Asrar
al-Kubra Hilyat al-Adhkara). It was compiled by the dust of the feet of the righteous Muhammad Haqqi al-Nazili from the district of Aydin. Kuz Dahshab. What do you say about this book?

A: We do not know any basis for this hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and there is an apparent anomaly in its text. As for the book mentioned, we have not come across it, and you can send us a copy of it so we can look at it and inform you of the truth of its content. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
