Writing verses on commercial establishments for advertising

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 21607 )
Q1: I am attaching to Your Eminence a clipping from the newspaper al-Madinah al-Munawwarah from one of the days of last week, in which I noticed that one of the owners of markets in Jeddah had begun his advertising for his new market with a verse from the Noble Qur'an, namely the verse of al-Fath. I have come to see that this action and its like is considered a desecration of the words of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). I have therefore sought your attention, may Allah preserve you, in order to offer advice and direct the relevant authorities to issue a general directive to
companies, institutions, and individuals not to resort to such practices in the future, if you consider what I have seen to be correct.

A: It is not permissible to use the Noble Qur'an to promote goods, advertisements, and campaigns, or the like; for that is a desecration of it and a use of it for other than what Allah has prescribed. It may also involve a distortion of the meanings of the Noble Qur'an and a diversion of them from what they were revealed for, as in the question; for the "opening" (al-Fath) in the verse mentioned is the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, not the opening of shops and markets. It is obligatory to honor the Noble Qur'an by reciting it, reflecting upon it, understanding its meanings, and acting upon it, and to avoid desecrating it and trading with it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
