The Verse: And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 16362 )
Q 2: What is the meaning of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
(23) And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. (24) And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small."
[Al-Isra 17:23-24]
?

A 2: The meaning of the noble verse is that Allah, Glorious is His praise, commands His servants to single Him out in worship and to be kind to their parents, especially when they reach old age, and forbids them from being impatient with them. Likewise, He, Exalted is He, commands them to be humble toward them and to be gentle with them in speech, using kind and noble words, and to pray for them in return for their kindness to him.
And Allah, Exalted is He, has coupled His right with the right of the parents in many verses of the Noble Qur'an due to the greatness of their right. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
