Fatwa number ( 10337 )
Q: I am a woman with grown-up children, and my treatment of my children is good, praise be to Allah. I have a harsh-hearted mother toward me, and I have not seen any tenderness from her since my childhood. She curses me with harsh curses that an enemy would not use against his enemy. I constantly try to please her and draw near to her, but to no avail. So, if I cut off contact with her and do not ask after her, is there anything on me? Please inform us, may Allah reward you, and we offer you our sincere thanks.
A : The rights of parents are great, especially the mother. It is obligatory for you to be kind to her, not to be bad to her, and to bear her bad treatment. Do not expect your mother to be kind to you. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Isra 17:23-24] And Allah the Exalted said: [Al-'Ankabut 29:8]
And Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Ahqaf 46:15] And Allah the Exalted said: [Al-An'am 6:151] the verse. And you must fear Allah: [At-Talaq 65:4] May Allah guide everyone to what pleases Him. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

(23) And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. (24) And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, "My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up [when I was] small."
And We have enjoined upon man goodness to parents
And Allah the Exalted said:
And We have enjoined upon man, to his parents, good treatment.
Say, "Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited to you. [He commands] that you not associate anything with Him, and to parents, good treatment
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him of his matter ease.
