Fatwa number ( 16185 )
Q: I read in a religious book that whoever has a need should recite al-Fatihah forty times after the Maghrib prayer until the recitation is completed, and before rising from his place, for his need will surely be fulfilled, if Allah wills. I ask for a ruling on this statement: is it correct?
A: Reciting al-Fatihah forty times in order to fulfill a need is not prescribed; rather, it is an innovation that has been introduced. It is not correct that the need of one who recites it will be fulfilled; that is merely advertising for this innovation and deceiving the common people. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
