Controlling stray cats and dogs, pigeons, birds, and household ants

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 15027 )
Q: We are a company that works in the field of pest control and the elimination of harmful pests to public health . We sometimes receive requests to control stray cats and dogs, pigeons, birds, and household ants. What is the opinion of the Islamic Shari'ah regarding controlling them by extermination, and regarding driving them away using repellent substances? We ask you, Your Eminence, to kindly reply to us in writing. May Allah reward you with the best reward.
A : It is permissible to use what drives away the aforementioned things and prevents their harm. If that is not feasible, it is permissible to kill them by means other than fire; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Five of the animals are all noxious creatures that are to be killed in the state of purity and in the state of ihram: the crow, the kite, the scorpion, the mouse, and the biting dog.خمس من الدواب كلهن فواسق يقتلن في الحل والحرم: الغراب والحدأة والعقرب والفأرة والكلب العقور
It is agreed upon that it is authentic, and what is included in these five is whatever shares their meaning in terms of harm.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
