Q: My father beats a cow we have. Is it permissible for him to beat it? Please inform us; may Allah reward you.
A: It is not permissible to beat a cow without need; because of the harm and torture it causes her. Allah the Exalted says:[Al-Baqarah 2:195] And in (the two Sahihs): And in them also, from him, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Riyad as-Salihin 1600 . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

A: It is not permissible to beat a cow without need; because of the harm and torture it causes her. Allah the Exalted says:
And do good; indeed, Allah loves the doers of good.
وَأَحْسِنُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُحْسِنِينَThat Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) passed by some young men from Quraysh who had set up a bird as a target and were shooting at it, and they had assigned to the owner of the bird every arrow that missed. When they saw Ibn 'Umar, they scattered. Ibn 'Umar said: Who did this? May Allah curse the one who did this. Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the one who takes anything with a soul as a target.
أن ابن عمر رضي الله عنهما، مر بفتيان من قريش قد نصبوا طيرًا وهم يرمونه، وقد جعلوا لصاحب الطير كل خاطئة من نبلهم، فلما رأوا ابن عمر تفرقوا، فقال ابن عمر : من فعل هذا؟ لعن الله من فعل هذا، إن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم لعن من اتخذ شيئًا فيه الروح غرضًاA woman was punished in Hell because of a cat which she had confined until it died. She did not give it to eat or to drink when it was confined, nor did she free it so that it might eat the vermin of the earth.
عذبت امرأة في هرة حبستها حتى ماتت، فدخلت فيها النار؛ لا هي أطعمتها وسقتها إذ هي حبستها، ولا هي تركتها تأكل من خشاش الأرض
