The third question of Fatwa No. ( 15439 )
Q 3: I went to the Makkah Haram in the first month of Muharram, 1412 AH, to pray Fajr before my mother passed away. Within my supplication in the courtyard of the Haram , I vowed to fast five days if Allah would cure my mother, without any intention on my part of believing in shirk (associating partners with Allah). My question to you, O Shaykh: Is this vow of mine prescribed or a bid'ah (religious innovation)? Knowing that I fasted one day before her death? I ask you to guide me regarding what happened with me in this vow. May Allah preserve you and keep your steps steady.
A 3: It is obligatory for you to fulfill the aforementioned vow if Allah cures your mother of the illness; because it is a vow of obedience, and it is established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Ibn Majah 2126Sahih (Darussalam) . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
