Fatwa number ( 17369 )
Q: Ifmy mother made a vow that if I passed first grade, she would have clothes made for my ten brothers from my father, and there are ten of them, so my question is: Is my mother obligated to have the clothes made, or is it sufficient for her to buy them ready-made?
A: Your mother is obligated to fulfill her vow; because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever vows to obey Allah, let him obey Him, and whoever vows to disobey Allah, let him not disobey Him.من نذر أن يطيع الله فليطعه، ومن نذر أن يعصي الله فلا يعصه
Sunan Ibn Majah 2126Sahih (Darussalam)
, and it is sufficient for her to clothe them with what she vowed, whether she tailored them for them or bought them ready-made for them.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
