The first question of Fatwa No. ( 18938 )
Q1: Nineteen years ago I vowed to perform Hajj for Allah the Exalted nine times if I were cured of the pains of menstruation that I was suffering from. I was thirteen or fourteen years old at the time. After thirteen years, I got married, and Allah the Exalted blessed me with children and cured me of those pains by His permission. Now that I have been cured by the grace of Allah the Exalted, what should I do? Do I have to fulfill that vow myself? Is it sufficient for me to perform some of those Hajj pilgrimages? Please note that I have not yet performed the obligatory Hajj, because I am pregnant one year and unsure where to leave my children the next. Should I pay money to someone to perform it on my behalf?
A1: It is obligatory for you to perform the obligatory Hajj of Islam. After performing the obligatory Hajj, it is obligatory for you to fulfill your vow whenever you are able to do so; because that is a vow of obedience. And it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sahih al-Bukhari 6696 It was narrated by al-Bukhari in his (Sahih). We advise you in the future not to make vows or bind yourself to something you may not be able to do; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade making vows; as narrated by Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both)
who said:Sahih al-Bukhari 6693 It was narrated by al-Bukhari in his (Sahih), in the chapter on oaths. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

من نذر أن يطيع الله فليطعه، ومن نذر أن يعصيه فلا يعصهwho said:
The Prophet (ﷺ) forbade the making of vows and said, "It (a vow) does not prevent anything (that has to take place), but the property of a miser is spent (taken out) with it."
نهى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم عن النذر وقال: لا يرد شيئًا إنما يستخرج به من البخيل
