She vowed to Allah to fast on Mondays and Thursdays if she became pregnant for the duration of the pregnancy

Fatwa number ( 20990 )
Q: A woman who does not bear children vowed to Allah to fast on Mondays and Thursdays if she became pregnant for the duration of the pregnancy. Allah granted her a child, so she became pregnant and gave birth, but she did not fast . What is obligatory upon her?
A: If this woman was able to fast but did not, then it is obligatory upon her to fulfill her vow by making up the fasts. She should count the number of Mondays and Thursdays during her pregnancy and fast that number of days. In addition to making up the fasts, she must pay the expiation for an oath because she delayed the fasting beyond the time she specified in her vow.
The expiation for an oath is to feed ten poor people, giving each one and a half kilograms of wheat, rice, or something similar that the people of the country eat, or to clothe them, or to free a believing slave. If she is unable to do any of these three things, she must fast three days as expiation for her vow. We advise her not to make vows in the future so that she does not bind herself to something she cannot fulfill, thereby falling into sin. This is also due to the prohibition of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding it, as he said:
The vow neither hastens anything nor defers anything, but is the means whereby (something) is extracted from the miserly person.إن النذر لا يقدم شيئًا ولا يؤخره، وإنما يستخرج به من البخيل
Sahih Muslim 1639b
. Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
