The Ruling on Searching Homes and Mosques

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 3429 )
Q2: What is Allah’s ruling regarding the salary of a police officer if, among his activities, he threatens Muslims and compels them to abandon the activities they carry out in their mosques, searches their homes, and spies on them? He claims that his intention behind all of this is to maintain the security of the country, and perhaps he does so believing that such activities in the houses of Allah are not even in the interest of the Muslims, but rather a departure from their ranks and a cause of their division. We inform you that most of these groups openly declare their hostility toward the ruling of the country, and such a police officer does not treat those who do not declare their hostility in the same way he treats the former. We also inform you that this police officer is a Muslim.
A2: First: It is not permissible to threaten Muslims or compel them to abandon the Islamic activities they carry out in their mosques, nor is it permissible to search their homes or spy on them; for Allah, the Exalted, has forbidden spying, and this is a form of cooperation in sin and aggression, which Allah, the Exalted, has forbidden by saying:
but do not cooperate in sin and aggressionوَلاَ تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:2]
. Second: The money he receives, if it is in exchange for the aforementioned
activities, is forbidden; for it is a wage for a forbidden act, and thus it is a corrupt earning; like the price of a prostitute, the fee of a fortune-teller, and the price of a dog. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
