The fifth question of Fatwa No. ( 25109 )
Q 5: My father took my three disabled younger siblings, whom I mentioned to your eminence, to a psychiatrist to prescribe medication for one of them, as he is very mischievous and we live in anxiety because of him. The doctor prescribed him sedative pills that make him sleep all day, so my brother sleeps involuntarily . Is there a sin on my father for that, even though he is compelled to give him the medication because it prevents us from attending to our needs, even though he does not harm anyone, but he wants to flee from the house and go to the farthest places, and we fear for him from road accidents? Is it permissible to confine him in the house or tie him with a rope so that he does not run far, and so that we do not give him medications that may cause him other diseases, which none knows but Allah?
A 5 : If these medications cause health damage, it is not permissible
to give them to this disabled person. He can be prevented from going out by tying him or confining him in the house or the like. We ask Allah for you assistance, success, reward, and recompense. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
