Using Certain Items in Ruqyah, Then Injecting Needles and Adding Perfume to Water

Fatwa No. ( 18569 )
Q: We treat cases of epilepsy, possession, and jinn affliction with the Noble Qur'an
and the authentic supplications from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), as well as the correct dhikr reported from him. However, some of our brothers treat patients using several methods, including: 1- They perform ruqyah in a vial of glucose and administer it intravenously to the patient afflicted by a jinn, citing the fact that Satan moves through the human body like blood. 2- They perform ruqyah in water and add perfume to it, on the grounds that jinn do not like perfume, and the afflicted person drinks it. 3- They also perform ruqyah in olive oil and give the patient water to drink with it. What do you advise your brothers who offer this kind of treatment?

A : Shari'ah ruqyah is based on specific texts, and it is not permissible to add to it beyond the prescribed method. Some people have introduced into Shari'ah ruqyah types of innovations out of ignorance, arrogance, or due to Satan's manipulation of some of them. Among these is the practice of some who perform ruqyah in a vial and then inject it into the vein of the patient afflicted by jinn, with this ruqyah practitioner citing the hadith:
The devil flows in a man like his blood.إن الشيطان يجري من ابن آدم مجرى الدم
Sunan Abi Dawud 4719Sahih (Al-Albani)
This is ruqyah by a non-Shari'ah means, and it is a form of medical practice
that entails the risk of harming the patient. This practitioner has no proof in the aforementioned hadith for what he did, because it indicates that Satan attaches to the human being, and the treatment is Shari'ah ruqyah, which is recitation and blowing on the afflicted person, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do. Injecting water into the vein may result in harm or damage. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
