A Vow for 'Abd al-Rahim al-Qanawi
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 11958 )
Q: I vowed to slaughter an animal for the shaykh 'Abd al-Rahim al-Qanawi , but a brother in Allah confronted me and told me that this is not permissible and is considered shirk (associating partners with Allah). However, I have paused for now pending a fatwa from your eminence. Please note that my children have sold this vow, and the amount is available until I go to them. Please inform us whether slaughtering for these shaykhs is haram (forbidden)? And if so, what should we do with this vow? Please reply as soon as possible.
A : It is haram (forbidden) to slaughter for the aforementioned shaykh or any other shaykhs; because slaughtering is an act of devotion to Allah the Exalted, and directing it to other than Allah is major shirk (associating partners with Allah). Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Kawthar 108:2], and Allah the Exalted said: [Al-An'am 6:162-163]. It is established in the hadith of 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Musannaf Abd al-Razzaq 17:2483 So you must repent and seek forgiveness, not fulfill this vow, and spend the amount on the poor Muslims among your relatives or others.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
