A discussion on loving for the sake of Allah and hating for the sake of Allah.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Regarding the narration of the mu'adhdhin who used to make mistakes in the adhan, and Ibn 'Umar ... (may Allah be pleased with him) would say to him: "I hate you for the sake of Allah"; is this narration authentic?

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : Look at how they were explicit in their path.

The Shaykh : These meanings are today hated and abandoned!

The questioner : They are missing.

The Shaykh : Yes?

The questioner : They are missing and ... .

The Shaykh : They are missing and also considered reprehensible; they are regarded as extremism. In reality, we who belong to the righteous Salaf have only one percent of this clear, explicit style, and yet we are considered extremists. If those who are lagging behind had been in the era of those Salaf, they would have called them madmen. So, Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) also had a man come to him who said: "I love you for the sake of Allah." He said: "As for me, bear witness that I hate you for the sake of Allah." "I love you for the sake of Allah and you hate me for the sake of Allah?!" He said: "Because you make mistakes in your adhan and you take a wage for it." So this explicitness in hating for the sake of Allah is no longer with us in Islam. If one of us hates another, he hates him for his person, for his self. Likewise, loving for the sake of Allah has left no trace or existence. If one of us loves another, it is for immediate material interests, also. So this was how the Salaf were.

The questioner : As for the first one, it is authentic.

The Shaykh : Which one is the first?

The questioner : ... This one exists, and the evidence for this is this entire gathering: "I love you for the sake of Allah."

The Shaykh : Oh teacher, this is correct.

Another questioner : Not by evidence, then ... .

The Shaykh : No, allow me to say: If you mean something like this, then both the first and the last, both of them exist. But this thing is rare and not worth mentioning. The criterion, as you know, is the majority: loving for the sake of Allah and hating for the sake of Allah; meaning, as an Islamic gathering, it has no mention left. But among individuals, the matter is not devoid of it, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
A group of people from my Umma will always remain triumphant on the right path and continue to be triumphant (against their opponents). He who deserts them shall not be able to do them any harm. They will remain in this position until Allah's Command is executed
Sahih Muslim 1920
.

The questioner : My master, the Shaykh, the one who loves for Allah must say to him: "I love you for the sake of Allah."

The Shaykh : Yes, but loving for the sake of Allah, in reality, oh teacher, has a price, it has a high price, few pay it!

Another questioner : Its definition.

The Shaykh : Do you know what the price is?

Another questioner: Go ahead.

The Shaykh : The price of loving for the sake of Allah will suffice us; we will expand on this talk for you, we will open a new chapter, S, J, M.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : What is the price of loving for the sake of Allah? What do you say? Just raise your finger, whoever has an answer gives us the answer to this question.
Please proceed.

The questioner : He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
seven, on the Day when there will be no shade but His. (These seven persons are) a just ruler, a youth who has been brought up in the worship of Allah (i.e. worships Allah sincerely from childhood), a man whose heart is attached to the mosques (i.e. to pray the compulsory prayers in the mosque in congregation), two persons who love each other only for Allah's sake and they meet and part in Allah's cause only
Sahih al-Bukhari 660
.

The Shaykh : Yes, this is an answer, correct speech in itself, but it is not the answer to the question.

The questioner : This is the reward ... .

The Shaykh : Yes, this is an approximate definition of loving for the sake of Allah, not a complete definition. My question is: What is the price that the two who love each other for the sake of Allah should pay, one to the other? And I do not mean the otherworldly reward. In other words, this question is new and incidental. It may be that my question is deficient, so I will correct, I will correct until I see my state. I feel I have asked well. I want from the question to say: What is the practical evidence of loving for the sake of Allah between two who love each other? It may be that two men love each other, but their love is formal, not real; so what is the evidence of real love?

The questioner : Satan also ... .

The Shaykh : Yes, it is possible.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Allow me a moment to see, to examine those who are preparing to answer.
Please proceed.

The questioner : Real love.

The Shaykh : No, no, allow me, my brother—may Allah be pleased with you—do not rush.
Please proceed.

Another questioner : That I love what I love for myself.

The Shaykh : This is a characteristic of love, or some of the characteristics of love.

The questioner : It is sincerity, this.

The Shaykh: Go ahead.

The questioner: Allah - the Exalted - said:
If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you
[Ali 'Imran 3:31]
.

The Shaykh : This is an answer to another question, a correct answer to another question.
Please proceed.

Another questioner : The answer may be the authentic hadith.

The Shaykh : Stay away from the chatter; because it will not be an answer!

The questioner : The authentic hadith:
Three qualities, whoever has them will find the sweetness of faith.
.

The Shaykh : Found.

The questioner : Yes, among them are those who love each other for the sake of Allah.

The Shaykh : The man loved, so he does not love him except for the sake of Allah. This is not an answer, this is the effect of love for the sake of Allah. What is it? A sweetness he finds in his heart. And the question was not about the effect of love for the sake of Allah.
Please proceed.

Another questioner : It seems you want His saying (Glorified and Exalted is He).

The Shaykh : What do you have to do with what I want? Answer the question.

The questioner :
(1) By time, (2) Indeed, mankind is in loss, (3) Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.
[Al-'Asr 103:1-3]
.

The Shaykh : This is the answer, well done, this is the answer.
The explanation of this: If I truly love you for the sake of Allah, I follow you with advice, and likewise you meet me with the same. And therefore, this following with advice is very rare among those who claim love for Allah (Mighty and Majestic). This love may have some sincerity in it, but it is not complete; and that is because each of us considers the other, yes, we are afraid he will be angry, we are afraid he will leave, yes, let him be with us, live with us, "it is not said," b, b, and so on.
This is not it. The price of love for the sake of Allah is that each of us is sincere to the other, and that is by advising him; he commands him to do what is right and forbids him from what is wrong, always and forever. So in his advice, he is more attached to him than his shadow. And the picture that the brother mentioned is in reality one of the best ... it may be for that question. And therefore it is correct that it was among the etiquette of the Companions when they parted that one of them would recite to the other:
(1) By time, (2) Indeed, mankind is in loss, (3) Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.
[Al-'Asr 103:1-3]
.

The questioner : The hadith:
The religion is sincere advice
that it ... includes.

The Shaykh : How?

The questioner : Religion is advice.

The Shaykh: What is it?

The questioner : Does it include with the verse regarding the answer?

The Shaykh: Of course.

Eid Abbasi : Accepting advice also.

Another questioner : The first answer is acceptable.

Another questioner : This interpretation, even if it leads to parting with the person.

The Shaykh : Of course, it is. No, we have two cases: we have a principle and we have the style and method. It is not in the name of love for the sake of Allah that he comes and says: "Because he loves him so much, he bites him!" Meaning, he does not come and use harshness with him; because when there is truly pure love, the more you advise him, the more he loves you. And the opposite is exactly the opposite; because love is based on otherworldly interests. Just as immediate material interests here bring two people together immediately; so even more so, otherworldly interests bring two people together immediately and in the future.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : The Shaykh "Nafi'" has come; shall we go?

The questioner : Teacher, no, it is early.

The Shaykh : It is five o'clock.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : I have, may Allah bless you, as we told you, a meeting there in Aleppo, and whoever wishes from you, let him please come.

The questioner : In Aleppo ... .
