The second question of Fatwa No. ( 18281 )
Q 2: Is it permissible for one who commits a major sin, if he repents, to become an imam for the Muslims? And will he be punished in the Hereafter if he repents in this world and the hadd is not carried out against him ?
A 2: Repentance wipes out what came before it, and the one who repents from a sin is like one who has no sin. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Anfal 8:38] , and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: narrated by Muslim in (his Sahih). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for them
