Retaking a photograph and making photography a profession for earning a livelihood

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 3208 ):
Q: I have a document copier, and I am often asked to copy passports, visas, and things of that nature. In other words, if I copy the passport, I copy the photo. So, if I copy the photo in the passport and others, is there any sin on me for doing so, given the hadith prohibiting image-making? I am an employee responsible for the copying work, so I ask you to give me the ruling on copying the photo or part of it, with evidence.
A: It is forbidden to copy any image that has a soul, whether human, livestock, beasts, birds, or the like, whether it is three-dimensional or two-dimensional, and whether the image is complete or only of the face and head. Likewise, it is forbidden to retake a photograph, except in cases of necessity, such as a photo for a passport
or a national ID card. It is not permissible for a Muslim to make photography a profession from which he earns a livelihood. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
