Hunting pigeons by crushing their heads so that they die before slaughter
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 14345 )
Q1: We have some people who operate traps for wild pigeons and other wild birds that eat grains. These traps are made of stones, and they place the grain inside them. When a bird comes and eats from it, the trap collapses on it, crushing it until it dies. It dies without being slaughtered. Is it lawful or forbidden?
A1: It is not permissible to eat it if it died due to the stones collapsing on it. However,
if a person catches it before it dies and slaughters it, and the blood flows out, then it is permissible to eat it, whether it is a bird or an animal. This is based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Ma'idah 5:3] And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

Prohibited to you are dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah, and [those animals] killed by strangling or by a violent blow or by a head-long fall or by the goring of horns, and those from which a wild animal has eaten, except what you [are able to] slaughter [before its death]
