The second question of Fatwa No. ( 20114 )
Q2: He has a relative who most of the time swears at the children, so does
she commit a sin if she does not expiate for every oath?
A2: If this woman swears at her children or others with an oath intending for them to do something, or forbidding them from doing it, and they disobey her by leaving what she ordered them to do, or doing what she forbade them from in her oath, then it is a binding oath and she must pay the expiation, which is: feeding ten poor people, or clothing them, or freeing a believing slave, and the amount of food is half a sa' for each poor person from the common staple food of the country, such as wheat or rice or the like. If she is unable to feed, clothe, or free a slave, then she must fast for three days. She must also investigate the oaths she has made and expiate for them. If she is able to pay the expiation but does not, she commits a sin for not obeying Allah's command to expiate for the oaths a person has made, and she is held accountable for neglecting it. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Ma'idah 5:89] So this woman must pay the expiation for an oath for every oath
she has made, if they are not for a single action. As for if they are for a single action, then one expiation is sufficient for them. We also advise this woman not to make Allah a target for her oaths, not to swear often for the most trivial reasons, and not to bind herself with oaths she may be unable to expiate for or count, so that she falls into sin. Allah the Exalted said: , and He the Exalted said: [Al-Baqarah 2:224] . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

Allah will not impose blame upon you for what is meaningless in your oaths, but He will impose blame upon you for [breaking] what you intended of oaths. So its expiation is the feeding of ten needy people from the average of that which you feed your [own] families or clothing them or the freeing of a slave. But whoever cannot find [or afford it] - then a fast of three days [is required]. That is the expiation for oaths when you have sworn
