Excessive Oaths

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The sixth question of the fatwa number ( 8097 )
Q6: My wife swears oaths frequently without necessity, to the point that it has almost become a habit she is accustomed to , is that permissible?
A6: It is not permissible; because of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And keep your oathsوَاحْفَظُوا أَيْمَانَكُمْ
; and because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Beware of swearing; it produces a ready sale for a commodity, but blots out the blessing.إياكم وكثرة الحلف في البيع؛ فإنه ينفق ثم يمحق
Sahih Muslim 1607
, narrated by Muslim . The specific mention of selling, as opposed to other matters, is due to the prevalence of frequent oath-taking in it during the time of the prohibition. And among the established principles is that the consideration is given to the generality of the wording, not the specificity of the cause. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
