Excessive Oath-Taking Without Need

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 21025 )
Q 1: A person frequently swears by Allah in his conversations without any reason,
and his argument is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) often said, "By the soul of Muhammad which is in My hand," and no one asked him to swear. Moreover, our Lord swore in the Qur'an by many of His creations, and He swore by His own Self (Exalted and Majestic is He) without anyone calling on Him to do so. Is he correct in this?

A 1: Excessive oath-taking in worldly matters without need is disliked; this is due to the generality of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And keep your oathsوَاحْفَظُوا أَيْمَانَكُمْ
, and because it may lead to taking the name of Allah the Exalted lightly. However, using oaths in religious matters to confirm them for the listener, dispel doubt, and encourage adherence to them is required, and this is what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
