Oath taken while believing it to be true

Fatwa number ( 10412 )
Q: I made a mistake in a sexual certificate for my cousin (M. H.), and my statements were as follows: First, I told the officer that my cousin was his son, and he replied: "He is not your cousin." I took this oath despite the fact that I had made a mistake in mentioning his mother's real name, because I gave him a name other than his mother's name. My intention was not to lie in the oath, and I ask you to explain to me whether I am sinful or not?
A: If you took the oath to the officer while you believed in the truth of your own statement, and it turned out that the reality was contrary to what you swore to, then you owe nothing. However, if you took the oath while knowing that you were lying, then you are sinful. It is obligatory for you to seek forgiveness and repent, and you do not owe an expiation for the oath. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
