Oath to abandon voluntary fasting
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 12470 )
Q1: I said the following: “By Allah, the Most High, the Most Great, I will not fast voluntarily as long as that stops your work and pleases you.” I was also in an emotional state and in a state of anger, then my father calmed down from his anger and I also calmed down, and after that I regretted it greatly because I swore that oath. What is its expiation?
A1: It is obligatory for you to pay the expiation for an oath for your oath to abandon voluntary fasting. The expiation is: feeding ten poor people, or clothing them, or freeing a believing slave. If you do not find the means to do so, then fast for three days. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
