The Sale and Rental of Musical Instruments

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 18145 )
Q3: I have been a piano enthusiast for five years, and I loved to
learn it. Over time, I acquired that musical instrument, learned to play it, and became proficient in its performance. Until three months ago, when one of my brothers in Allah came to me and said: "The piano is one of the forbidden instruments." He asked me to stop playing it. Praise be to Allah, I have indeed stopped playing it and left the instrument in the house. Then days came when I was compelled to sell this instrument. When I resolved to do so, a person said to me: "Do not sell it." I replied: "Why?" He said: "Because if you sell it, you will spread harm, and it is better for you not to sell it," even though I am in dire need of its value. So what do you advise me? And is my companion’s statement correct that if I sell it, I will bear the sin of whoever uses it? Even though I am in dire need of the amount I would receive if I sold it, as mentioned previously.

A 3: Instruments of singing are not permissible to sell; because they have no value in the Shari'ah, and their price is corrupt; because it is a compensation for a forbidden thing. And Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) says:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect.وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا (2) وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لاَ يَحْتَسِبُ
[At-Talaq 65:2-3]
May Allah make your matter easy.
