A vow to do one of two things if one commits the secret habit

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 7913 )
Q: I am 26 years old, married, and praise be to Allah, and I have a small daughter. When I was fifteen and sixteen, I was overcome by a strong desire that I could not restrain except through the secret habit. This caused me increasing anxiety, until one day I said to myself that I would end it by making a vow: I vowed to Allah that I would fast two consecutive months if I returned to practicing that habit. However, the next day I did return to the secret habit. Now, after about nine years have passed, I would like to know if I am required to fulfill that vow. If fasting the two months is difficult given my current circumstances, such as work and other matters, but if you rule that I must fulfill it, I will do my best to fulfill the vow, so that I may be among those to whom the saying of Allah the Exalted applies:
They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread.يُوفُونَ بِالنَّذْرِ وَيَخَافُونَ يَوْمًا كَانَ شَرُّهُ مُسْتَطِيرًا
[Al-Insan 76:7]

A: First: the secret habit is forbidden. Second: it is obligatory for you to fulfill your vow; because of Allah’s praise of those who fulfill their vows
in His saying:
They fulfill their vowsيُوفُونَ بِالنَّذْرِ
, and because it is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) his saying:
Whoever vows that he will be obedient to Allah, should remain obedient to Himمن نذر أن يطيع الله فليطعه
Sahih al-Bukhari 6696
And a vow to leave off a sin is an act of obedience. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
