Fatwa No. (16757) Q: I am, praise be to Allah, married and have several children

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 16757 )
Q: I am, praise be to Allah, married and have several children, but my second child was born via a surgical operation in the hospital. Following that, I vowed to Allah the Exalted that if the third child is born without a surgical operation, I will fast for Allah the Exalted three days every month, and Allah the Exalted decreed that my third child was born naturally. I continued to fulfill my vow, but the fourth child was born via a surgical operation. Since I am unable to continue fulfilling my vow, as I inquired of some scholars, but I was not satisfied with their answers, I wished to send this issue to your eminence, hoping for your answer as to whether I am required to pay an expiation or continue fulfilling the vow despite my inability?
A: You must continue fasting three days every month to fulfill your vow, until something occurs that prevents you from being able to fast Ramadan; due to the existence of a permanent inability, you must pay the expiation for an oath; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever vows that he will be obedient to Allah, should remain obedient to Himمن نذر أَن يطيع الله فليطعه
Sahih al-Bukhari 6696
the hadith. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
