My mother opposed the marriage and swore she would not enter my house

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 11042 )
Q: I wanted to marry a girl from among my relatives, and I had been engaged to her for four years, arranged through my father, but my mother opposed this
marriage, and threatened to leave the house if it happened, and swore that she would not enter my house if I married this girl. At that point, the marriage project was halted. This happened last year, and a few days ago, my father and I went to the girl’s family, and the marriage contract was concluded, and the girl became my wife according to the way of Allah and His Messenger. This happened without my mother’s knowledge, and when she learned of the matter, she immediately left our house—my father’s house—and went to her family’s house, and she was angry with me and swore that she would not return to our house, and she said: “I am angry with you, and I will not be pleased with you until you reverse this matter,” meaning that you divorce your wife. It is known that the wedding has not yet taken place, and if I were to give up my wife, my father would also be angry with me, knowing that I want my wife and do not want to give her up. My question here is: Do I bear sin as a result of my disobedience to my mother and her desire that I not marry this girl? And should I give up my wife in order to please my mother, who left the house and left my nine brothers without a caretaker? If I do this, my father will be angry with me. I later learned that the reason for my mother’s refusal of this girl is that she—the girl—has a kinship connection with my father’s second wife. So, O honorable Shaykh, I am seeking the pleasure of both parents and I do not know what to do? I ask you, in your honor, to resolve this problem of mine... May you be rewarded
and recompensed, and may Allah preserve you and care for you.

A : It is obligatory for you to be dutiful to your mother and to treat her well in word and deed as much as you can, and it is not obligatory for you to divorce your wife, with whom you have concluded the contract, if she is satisfactory in her religion and character, in order to appease your mother’s displeasure with the marriage to her. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
