His mother is not pleased with him, so he is undutiful to her and becomes lax in his religion because of that

Fatwa number ( 13496 )
Q: I am seventeen years old. I grew up holding firmly to my religion and observing its obligatory acts despite my difficult circumstances. However, I have a mother with bad character, a quick temper, slow to be pleased, and little regard for her religion. She says things in front of my sister that my modesty prevents me from mentioning here. All of this is known about her among our neighbors. I am sorry to mention these things about my mother, but I do so so that the situation is clear to you with complete frankness. My mother has not spoken to me for four months, which has led me to abandon prayer and listen to songs in despair of her being pleased with me. I think I am undutiful to my mother, but my conscience does not agree with that. I have tried to please her, but to no avail, because she is determined to keep quarreling with me. What should I do? Should I continue to abandon prayer in despair of her being pleased with me? What is my standing in the ruling of the religion? And are my deeds not accepted if my mother continues in this state? May Allah reward you with good.
A: It is obligatory for you to be dutiful to your mother and to treat her well in word and deed, and not to anger her. It is forbidden for you to abandon prayer; in fact, abandoning it out of negligence is disbelief according to the correct opinion of the scholars. It is not permissible for you to listen to songs; rather,
it is obligatory for you to repent to Allah the Exalted and to maintain the prayer, even if your mother does not speak to you. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
