Q: I ask you to look into these books: (The Supplications of the Righteous) by the shaykh Ahmad al-Rifai , and the treatise (Unveiling the Veils from What Is Called an Innovation but Is in Fact a Sunnah) by the Algerian author Abu Muhammad 'Abd al-Wahhab Mhiya , and to inform us of their validity or invalidity. May Allah reward you.
A: The book titled (Unveiling the Veils from What Is Called an Innovation and a Sunnah) has previously been the subject of Fatwa No. (19185), which stated the following: (Upon reviewing this book, it became clear that its author is not among the scholars of knowledge and verification from whom Islamic legal rulings are derived. He has mentioned things as being sunnahs when they are in fact religious innovations. It is obligatory to turn to the books of the verified scholars who are attested to for their piety, trustworthiness, and firmness in knowledge).
As for the second booklet, which is (The Supplications, Dhikr, and Daily Recitations of the Righteous, including the recitations of Ahmad al-Rifai ), the method of Ahmad al-Rifai is one of the methods of the innovating Sufis. This booklet is a book of dhikr, all of which are invented and have no basis in the pure Shari'ah. It also contains forced expressions, forced rhyming phrases, obscure terms, and innovative forms of seeking nearness to Allah (tawassul), as well as restricting these recitations to specific forms in a particular time, place, or state. There is no evidence for any of this from the Book or the Sunnah. It diverts people from the correct, authentic supplications and dhikr established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). It is obligatory for every Muslim to follow and emulate the infallible Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), to revive his Sunnah and act upon it in dhikr and other matters, for it is the safe path leading to the pleasure of Allah and His Paradise, by His permission (Glorified and Exalted is He). The Muslim should beware of the paths of ruin and the ways of the innovators and their deviation from the guidance of the Seal of the Prophets and Messengers. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
