Repentance from abandoning some of the prayers and committing some of the sins

Fatwa number ( 6388 )
Q: I was a girl in my first year of college, knowing nothing and withdrawn from others. Suddenly, I found a path before me calling for the establishment of the limits of Allah. My knowledge of my religion, which is Islam,
was little. So I began to take all of this strongly, implementing what was in it literally and being jealous of it against anything that affected me or it in my appearance. I veiled myself and I used to establish the prayer at its times, and the recommended practices, and reading the Qur'an, all the time of day or night, with continuous supplication and praise of Allah. Then what happened to me? Suddenly, all of this turned into a mirage. I adorned myself in my hijab, or more correctly, in my Islamic attire. I did not read the Qur'an, and the mushaf became an ornament in the house. Lowering the gaze, my voice, and modesty no longer had a place in my life. So I began to talk to a man or a girl very normally, like the girls of my era. Even the prayer, sometimes I would pray and sometimes I would not. Sometimes I would admit that I maintain the times of prayer, and sometimes I would say, "Well, it is the same, as long as I do not lower my gaze and do not establish the limits of Islam, and I have become like the others." So if I do not pray, but I am afraid to marry a man who is not upon the religion, meaning one who establishes the limits of the religion. Now I am in my fourth year of college, and with the permission of my Lord, I will succeed and I will go down to work (a school of sciences). I feel something that frightens me, and I do not know where to start the path. I am afraid that I will start strongly and then return the second time, and that I am like the one who is lost and knows nothing. So I ask you, my brother, to make me understand what I should do, and how I should start, and how I should deal with people, and how I should set out, and with what I should besiege myself and its love for life and adornment, even though I am an ordinary person? But I always compare what I do with what others do. I found that I did not wear anything but attire, and my heart did not wear anything
that preserves it or protects it from the allure of the world and long hope. I ask you to benefit me in my matter.

A: It is obligatory upon you to repent from what occurred from you of abandoning some of the prayers and committing some of the sins. This is by regretting what occurred and resolving not to return to it. And you must be moderate in your worship to the extent of your ability by doing the obligatory acts and the recommended practices, and avoiding the forbidden and the disliked. Beware of extremism, and do not neglect the obligatory acts lest you perish. Rather, it is between that, which is the middle path. Increase in reading the Qur'an to the extent of your ability, and reflect on its meanings, and act upon what it commands, and leave what it forbids. As for the adornment of life in food and clothing, there is nothing wrong with it if it is permissible and lawful. Indeed, Allah the Exalted says:
O children of Adam, take your adornment at every masjid, and eat and drink, but be not excessive. Indeed, He likes not those who commit excess.
[Al-A'raf 7:31]
And deal well with people of your kind and your mahrams with the greeting, good speech, gentleness, and good character. And strive to marry a man who has religion and trustworthiness, one who maintains his religion and is known for good treatment and truthfulness with others. We ask Allah for you success and guidance to the straight path.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
