Fatwa number ( 21246 )
Q: If the skin of a fox is tanned, does it become pure? Is it permissible to use it in clothing and other things? And is it permissible to buy, sell, and trade in it?
A: The skin of the fox is impure, just like its meat; because it is a predator, falling under the general prohibition; due to the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 1933a Narrated by the Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him), and the hadith of Abu al-Mulih ibn Usamah , from his father (may Allah be pleased with them both), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) Sunan an-Nasa'i 4253 Narrated by the Imam Ahmad and Abu
Dawud and al-Nasa'i and al-Tirmidhi , and he added: (that one should spread it out) (may Allah have mercy on them), and the hadith of Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with them both), that he said to a group of the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Narrated by the Imam Ahmad and Abu Dawud , and from al-Muqdam ibn Ma'dikarib (may Allah be pleased with him), that he said to Mu'awiyah : Sunan Abi Dawud 4131Sahih (Al-Albani) Narrated by Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i . And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who said: Sunan Abi Dawud 4130Hasan (Al-Albani) Narrated by Abu Dawud . These texts prohibit the use of the skin of that whose meat is not eaten; because using them involves adornment and arrogance.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
